United Way of Greater St. Louis mobilizes the community with one goal in mind — helping people live their best possible lives. We unite people, resources and funding to help build strong and equitable communities where everyone can thrive.

As we begin our second century of impact to support nearly 160 other non-profits, we’re uniquely positioned to identify and address the needs of our communities.

Impact Areas

Early Childhood and Youth Success
When kids are safe, nurtured, and ready to learn, they are more likely to graduate and become productive citizens. 
  • 5,334 children were free from child abuse and neglect 
  • 2,052 children were ready to enter kindergarten 
  • 1,670 children and youth maintained or improved their academic performance.

Essential Needs
By supporting people’s basic needs we are helping people now so they can be better positioned to become independent later. 
  • 81,838 people had their immediate basic needs met 
  • 10,684 people secured, maintained, or transitioned to an improved, stable living situation 
  • 6,408 people experiencing domestic violence gained strategies for safety

Health and Wellbeing
Being healthy is vital for children to grow and develop and for adults to live a full and productive life. 
  • 23,182 people experienced fewer mental, emotional, behavioral symptoms 
  • 1,822 individuals with disabilities gained independent living skills 
  • 17,905 people successfully managed their chronic health conditions

Jobs and Financial Mobility
If families and individuals have secure financial footing, they are less likely to require other services and more likely to succeed. 
  • 7,086 people obtained job readiness skills 
  • 11,327 people retained employment for at least three months 
  • 1,866 people increased their income, savings, and assets
 
Community Stability and Crisis Response
A robust and safe community can strengthen and enhance the lives of its members, affording them the necessary tools to thrive. 
  • 25,418 people were successfully linked with community resources 
  • 3,278 community service providers enhanced their knowledge, capacity, and performance 
  • 18,192 people were prepared for or successfully recovered from an emergency or disaster
